Bolton and Bury Business Awards

Last year Westhoughton market won the We’re Backing Bolton award in the Bolton and Bury Business Awards.  This year Jean, who has the underwear stall on the market (do check out the stall as she has lots of retro underwear and tights) suggested that we apply for Best Start Up Business.  As I was in Germany at the time, Wayne and Kath submitted an 11th hour application, not holding out much hope of being successful.

Then a few weeks later they received a call from Bolton and Bury Business awards advising that Vibrant Vintage had been selected as a finalist.  Wayne and Kath called me in Germany and told me the news.  I didn’t realise just how important it was to be a finalist until I was told that Vibrant Vintage had beaten 100’s of other start up businesses to become a finalist!!!

When I returned from Germany thoughts turned to what to wear to the awards.  I love the 1950’s but as I usually wear 50’s clothes I decided to for a 1920’s look as the Great Gatsby style looks fab.  I do like a 1920’s bob but with waist long hair this can be hard to pull off.  However, I decided to attempt a 1920’s bob by curling my hair and pinning it, the look is finished off with a vintage fascinator.  The dress I wore is Marks and Spencer, the shoes Karen Millen, the bag Prada, and finished off with a vintage silver fox fur butterfly wrap.

Kath wore a 1920’s style dress with a little black wrap and fox fur wrap, while Wayne wore a dinner jacket and vintage white scarf.

A few days before the award ceremony the Bolton Evening News had a supplement with all the businesses that had got to the final.  At this point I started to worry as in our category the businesses were already huge with impressive turnovers.  Vibrant Vintage was the smallest company by far and the only one without employees!!  The business awards ceremony was held on Thursday 20th June at De Veres.  The evening started with a bucks fizz reception and then a three course meal.  The starter was a yummy butternut squash soup, followed by chicken and veg and finishing with profiteroles.

Vibrant Vintage didn’t win the award but we received a “commended” certificate that has pride of place in the shop.  Vibrant Vintage are proud to have been nominated as a finalist and would like to thank everyone who has supported us at the market, at the shop or at one of our fairs.  We really couldn’t have done any of this without you.  There is a special thank you to Jean Coban who made us apply for the award in the first place (those who have been to one of our fairs we have seen Jean as her daughter owns Urban Chocolate Company).
